I bought this unit and used it to clean all the carpets in my home over a three week period. At the end of the three weeks it stopped sucking the water back up, I had been taking excellent care of it and had kept it clean. I brought it to the repair place and they fixed it but it never worked as well again. It just keeps breaking. It has to be turned on its side to get the shampoo to "wake up" and start coming out. It sometimes works but often times it does not. Its been back to the repair place repeatedly and now that the warranty expired its worthless. It actually would have been cheaper to have my carpets done professionally. I have a friend who brought a similar unit at costco and had the same trouble.

Dirt Devil CE5500 Floor Keeper Review

Dirt Devil CE5500 Floor Keeper
Average Reviews:

Okay, first I purchased the "flip it". I basically flipped it right back to the store. Vacuum side was useless. Mopping side was even more useless. Zero rotation...you basicall move a scrubby pad back and forth while sprayed solution is a mess all over the floor.
Next I bought the Dirt Devil Floor Keeper. It lived up to the Dirt Devil reputation.....junk. Not only did the vacuum leave alot to be desired, but the actual "brushes" for mopping were ridiculously designed. Basically it is a bar with a very thin thread of bristles running diagonally across it. Not exactly sure all the floor is "scrubbed" by this tiny brush. Solution came out in globs everywhere....I spent plenty of time on my knees hand drying the floor. Finally, I purchased the Hoover Floormate. My reluctance at first was due to the price. However, the old adage, 'you get what you pay for'. Bottom line, I love it. Vacuum works great. The rotating brushes do a wonderful job of cleaning the floor (very little effort on my part). Best thing is when you empty the intake tank. The water is disgusting, proving that by using a regular sponge or string mop you are just swishing dirty water back and forth over your floor. My only complaint is the solution switch...it's kind of difficult to see how much is coming out of the machine into the brushes. Left some wet spots on the floor, which was taken care of by using the wet pick up function. I think as I get more used to how much solution is actually being released, I will have less of a problem.
Bottom line, I love the machine as much as I hated the Bissell and Dirt Devil!!

I really like this vacuum cleaner! It is so lightweight. The width enables me to vacuum between my dining room chair legs (I don't have to move all of the chairs away from the table). The suction power (12 amp) really deep cleans. The price is awesome! I recommend this vacuum to anyone!

NEW Rug Doctor Wide Track Pro Carpet Shampooer SteamVac Review

NEW Rug Doctor Wide Track Pro Carpet Shampooer SteamVac
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own 2 Bissel cleaners, 1 pro heat and the other is even older. I wanted to try one of these thinking I might buy one because my other 2 are getting some age on them and I have had to repair the oldest one. This unit does a very good job as long as you are cleaning out in the middle of a room (away from walls & ect.). The brush on it agitates back and forth so it will get both sides of the nap. It however does not get very close to edges and when you start cleaning it doesn't start putting out solution very close to the front so you have to have attatchments to get close to walls, stairways, large furniture that you may not want to move each time you clean ect. Also it is big which makes it more awkward for spot cleaning. I don't know if it really cleaned THAT much better than my pro heat (I bought it when they first came out a few years ago - it's not the newest model), but you don't have to stop and add water/clean the pickup tank nearly as often. Another drawback to this machine is that you have to mix the cleaning solution and the water. On the Bissels, you have seperate tanks and if you want to go all water to rinse a spot you just cleaned or go heavier on the cleaning solution for grimier areas, you can just turn a knob. Also in the commericals they would have you believe that the carpets will dry faster. I'm not sure if that is true.
Don't get me wrong, it is a very good cleaner, and it is built like a tank, I'm not sure it is worth almost $1000 ($800 more than the newer Bissel we have which also heats the water, or keeps it good and hot anyway).
We have 3 dogs and 1 clutsy teenage boy still at home, and they keep me busy cleaning carpets. If it really did THAT much better of a job than what I have, I would buy one. Or maybe if the price was a little more in line, at least $300 cheaper. I hope this helps.

I read a lot of reviews from other folks who had purchased Miele machines. Coming from a Hoover bagless with powerhead, I was worried about the extra cost of the Miele, the bags and the lack of powerhead. However, most of my vacuuming is hardwood or tile and what little is carpeted is not a worry. People remarked about the quality of the Miele motor and they were not kidding. Its very powerful and VERY quiet. I need to open the vent on hardwood, otherwise the head will suction to the floor. Its very light, moves easily, the cord retractor is quality and I like the "park" feature. All in all, this Vac is an investment in quality. Shop with confidence.

I received my vacuum from an online source, it arrived damaged. The seller felt it was my responsiblity to contact the manufactor to get a replacement part. I called over 8 times in a period of two weeks, left multiple messages on thier voice mail. I have yet to hear from the Sunbeam Genuine Part and Service Center.
I like the vacuums design, it's simple does not clog with pet hair and is easy to clean if it were to clog. However I realize with no customer service, when the belt breaks or I need a filter this vacuum may go in the trash. Overall my experience purchasing a larger item online has been very disappointing and I think I will do my shopping locally where the seller backs the product and it's service.

Oreck Signature® Plus II Upright Vacuum Review

Oreck Signatureandreg; Plus II Upright Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My review is for the Oreck XL Pro Plus II from Costco. According to "best vacuum reviews dotcom", Costco's XL Pro Plus II model is identical to Target's Signature Plus II, and Oreck Direct's Element and XL Classic.
I furiously researched my first vac 15 years ago, a Sharp 12TW series upright that was library quiet and did a great job in a very basic package. It needed only a few minor do-it-yourself repairs over the years (parts off the internet), and in general my only complaints were the short cord and short hose. The motor finally quit and I figured it was time for a new unit. I'm wishing now I had a little more than my BlackBerry to research this purchase in the aisles of Costco, although, to be fair, the Costco.com user reviews are mostly stellar for this vacuum.
Let's talk about the good points:
+ The Oreck was extremely easy to assemble out of the box. Remove two screws and a plastic pull-tab, insert the handle, and re-install the two screws. Ready to go.
+ This vacuum is indeed lightweight. Oreck's comparison is their vac to a gallon of milk, versus their competitor to a tire off of a small car.
+ The cord is both long, and heavy duty. I noticed on my Sharp's too-short cord that it would become extremely supple after just a few minutes of use, most likely due to the gauge of wire they chose to use heating up as the current flowed. This is definitely a more suitable cord, especially for the long length.
+ Very maneuverable in that the vacuum head is narrow, so it easily goes between chair legs and around coffee tables, and gets farther under some low furniture because of its low height.
+ Unencumbered by attachments and dangling hoses. Very purpose-built, a machine for vacuuming carpets.
+ Super heavy-duty filtered bags. These things look like fluffy hand towels all folded up. Purportedly dust trapping, hypoallergenic. Not that I've ever had a complaint about my Sharp's paper-style bags.
+ Simple fabric bag bag. Er, that is to say, no overly complicated fancy-looking plastic body; no unnecessary parts to break. Just a fabric bag and a zipper. Simple.
That's all well and good, but now for the not-so-good points:
- Despite its light weight, I find it unnecessarily difficult to push around. The old Sharp has fairly conventional 2 or 2½ inch rear wheels and little tiny roller wheels under the brush, and rolls quite smoothly. This Oreck has tiny roller wheels all around, and is -- I don't want to overstate this -- a bit of a chore to push around on our very low-cut berber carpet. Maybe because the carpet isn't tacked down so well everywhere and is actually being sucked into this machine's brush? Maybe... or maybe just because of its teeny-tiny wheels! Whatever the cause, it's not as free-wheeling as its light weight might predispose.
- The edge suction is truly abysmal. The machine has two small edge brushes astride the roller, and these bristly protrusions to indeed grab tufts of pet hair if contacted. But half the time they deposit that tuft right back on the carpet a few feet later. For a vacuum with this much claimed suction, concentrated under such a small head, I'm baffled that this is a problem.
- It's noisy. It's not whiny loud like a $79 vacuum, or even like a commercial vac or Shop Vac, but compared to the "library quiet" Sharp it's replacing, the Oreck is noticeably louder.
- Worthless headlight. Honestly, why even bother with these? It's not like I stick the vac under the couch, then get down on my hands and knees to look underneath and see what it "sees."
- Narrow head. I know I listed this in the "plus" list, but it also means more back-and-forth strokes to get the same amount of carpet clean.
- No tools means no hose. My wife and I were both OK with no onboard tools or wand, but after using it she mentioned she misses being able to disconnect the hose and quickly dab at something or other with just the free hose end. The way this cleaner works is the suction goes right up the handle into the bag, so there is no hose to detach. You want that, you've got to break out their handheld unit.
- Awkward maneuvering from room to room. Missing those bigger wheels right at the rear of the machine, I guess this machine isn't intended to be wheeled around like a hand cart when just moving it around the house, as is the case with every other vacuum I've used. Not a deal breaker in and of itself -- due to its light weight -- but just one more tick on the "dislike" list.
I think, out of all the "cons" I've listed, the one most serious deal breaker is the poor edge suction. I'm pretty sure I could overlook everything else, even the lack of a hose. My old Sharp wasn't great on edges, either, but at least I had the option of pulling off the hose and sliding on the carpet brush for that type of detail work. If I end up keeping this Oreck, it'll be a two-pass job where I have to double back with the included handheld unit.
Update 4/16: After writing this review and the wife and I independently using and deciding we didn't like this vac, I decided to give it another go, rationalizing "it couldn't be *that* bad." I finished cutting one of the dogs, and true to form, he ran inside the house and shook just inside the front door. I got the Oreck out and vacuumed this fur-covered area first, generally satisfied with the results, then the living room and then one of the bedrooms, still noting my displeasure with the lack of edge suction. When I completed, I walked around and noticed the vacuum dropped random tufts of fur here and there. My suspicion is this is being caught up by the edge bristles, but never makes it into the machine, instead falling off at random places. Really unacceptable. I reluctantly boxed the Oreck up and returned it to Costco the following day -- reluctant because I really wanted this comparatively simple US-made product to work for my needs.

Black & Decker Power Mop Review

Black and Decker Power Mop
Average Reviews:

I waited impatiently for this product's release and was not disappointed in it! Due to a knee problem I have difficulty in getting my kitchen floor absolutely clean using the typical spray-and-wipe tools such as the Chlorox Ready-Mop (which I had been using). Those work fine on a smooth surface but can't really get into any lower spots (like grout lines or lower areas in a textured-surface tile) very well. I'd often wished for something like the Black & Decker ScumBuster tool but with a long handle so that it could be used standing up. Well, this new product is exactly that, with the bonus of the onboard liquid dispenser and "mop-up" cloth right there as well. The bottle dispenser attaches instantly with a push-and-click, which is far easier than the setup on the Chlorox ReadyMop. The ability to use any cleanser (or even just hot water if that's your preference) and any mopping pad is yet another plus. My only question is why it took so long for any manufacturer to come up with a cleaning tool like this?!

The vacuum is great. The round handle makes it easy to push and pull from whatever grip is best for the user. The bagless feature is easy to empty. The wide base makes is quicker to vacuum your house. The vacuum sucks stuff you can't even see. It vacuumed the dust rightout of the inside of the carpet. The hose is really long. The price was great compared to moost vacuums like it. The electrical cord is really long. I am really happy that I bought this vacuum.

I bought this ShopVac to replace a Hoover shop vacuum that had stopped working (electrical). I like the taller profile this one has instead of the short fat profile of most of the other ShopVac's. I also wanted the removeable blower feature so this was the best choice for me. Very reasonable price and it arrived within 4 days which is good because I constantly use my shop vacuum.
My initial impression after using it for about a month is that I like it. It is easy to empty, clean and I like the onboard storage. My one criticism would be that it doesn't seem to have the same power my old Hoover had but supposedly has a higher horsepower rating.
One added suprise was the included rain gutter cleaning attachment. Haven't used it yet but will follow up in a couple of weeks after I've tried it out on the oak tree tassles that are currently falling.

I bought this vacuum because it was compared to the Dyson, but anyone who has ever owned a Dyson knows that the Dirt Devil Reaction does not come close to the suction power of the Dyson. This vacuum is not worth the price and constantly looses suction while vacuuming. The bagless canister connects to the vacuum, plastic to plastic with no rubber in between to keep the suction well. Why they don't have any rubber in between, I don't know. Do not buy this poorly put together vacuum.

Bissell PowerClean Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum, 16N54 Review

Bissell PowerClean Multi Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum, 16N54
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Bissell Powerclean Multi Cyclonic has a lot going for it but one thing it really struggles with is accommodating carpets and rugs of varying types. The wheels that control the ride height of the brush head are too small, the roller brush has short, very stiff bristles and is driven by a separate motor that bogs down easily. All this combines to make the Powerclean very sensitive to the density and pile height of the carpet. If your home has several carpet types or rugs you need to vacuum then don't buy this model unless you enjoy constantly reaching down to adjust the carpet height setting.
Ergonomics and handling aren't great either. It's a bit hefty, the rubber rear wheels are a hindrance on carpet and the handle has to be lowered almost all the way to the floor to lift up the front end.
On the plus side the dual stage cyclone system seems to do a good job capturing fine particles and dust which should keep HEPA filter changes to a minimum. Overall build quality seems pretty good, the dirt canister assembly appears to stay well sealed. The accessory hose and power cord are fairly long but not so long as to be a nuisance. The ability to turn off the roller brush is nice bit it appears to come at a price.
A word about "suction". This model can develop relatively high vacuum pressure at zero flow. That's good for lifting bowling balls (Oreck commercial) and seems impressive when you stick the accessory hose against your hand, but it's not what cleans carpets. To pull the dirt from the floor and into the vacuum cleaner you need air flow and the more air you move the harder it is to maintain vacuum pressure. Without going into an overly detailed explanation of how vacuum cleaners work, it should suffice to say that under typical operating conditions, this Bissell has about as much "suction" as my old $70 Hoover with a fresh bag. It's adequate, but not astonishing. To be fair I should note that my old Hoover doesn't provide anything near the level of filtration that the Bissell does.

The PowerClean has nine cyclones that provide non-stop suction to pull out embedded dirt for a deep down clean each time you vacuum. It has an AireTight HEPA filtration system to purify the air while you vacuum. The system traps and seals in allergens like pollens and dust mites. Finally, it is loaded with many additional features that make it easy and convenient to use.

I have been trying to find out if this product can be safely used on hardwood floors. Bissell used to make two different products - one for hard floors (ceramic, etc.) and one for wood floors, but they have discontinued the wood floor cleaner. I really liked the wood floor cleaner and thought that was what I was ordering at Amazon, however, it wasn't, instead I was sent the hard floor cleaner, which states on the bottle it is NOT for hardwood floors!. The hard floor cleaner works, but will it damage my floor? I really would like some clarification. I called their help line and was routed to someone in India (Pakistan?) who read to me the same information I already had from their internet site.
