(More customer reviews)Just got this today, 4-2-11, from Cosco at $181 including sales tax. They will take if back up to 1 year later if I find out it is junk, so why not give it a try. Hoover's generally have bad reviews, but then so do most vacuums. This one ran fine out of the box, and assembles in about 3 minutes with only 1 screw to attach the handle. Clip on the attachments and there you go. Like most new vacuums that work out of the box it picked up a lot of dirt from our clean carpet, our 7 year old dirt devil evidently lost a lot of vacuum before the motor went to vacuum cleaner heaven in a puff of smoke. The cord rewind feels stong, but we'll see how long it last. The carpet height setting seems to be weak, we have low pile carpet, but I had to set the cleaner to the next to highest setting to get the right feel (pushes too hard at lower settings). Works very well on hard floors, and has a foot operated swith to turn off the roller brush on hard floors if you want to. The roller brush also turns off when the handle is put up in the storage position, so if you use the hose attachments, the roller won't beat a hole in your carpet. Rather than spend my entire budget on a Dyson which from what I've read also puts out some lemons, since this model has all the features I was looking for, since it looked a little beefier and more compact than the competition (Bissel, Eureka), since I can return it up to a year from now, it made sense to give it a try. Heck, I can buy 3 of these before I hit the out-of-pocket on one Dyson. I will try to update this review in a few months as to how this non-scientific experiment is working out.
