Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends, 9500 Review

Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends, 9500

A review or two of this machine would have helped me a lot, so I'll leave one hoping it might help someone out there who's trying to decide which carpet cleaner to buy.
We moved into our house four months ago. The previous owner had the carpets cleaned for us, but they already looked awful. She was very tidy and clean--no children at home--and we just really aren't. The carpets on the main floor are a very light Berber, so you can probably imagine how they were starting to look with an eight-year-old constantly in and out. And we aren't shoe removers.
My only previous experience with a deep cleaner was a 5-year-old Bissell that served my mom faithfully until it finally stopped working when I tried to use it a few days ago. I am convinced the water shooter thingy only quit because it was left filthy by the last person who used it and is probably clogged up with some nasty glob of disgustion.
Anyway, I needed my carpets cleaned and I needed it done soon because my in-laws are due for a visit in just over a week. I didn't have time to wait for Amazon to ship me a carpet cleaner, and I didn't want to pay someone half what this cleaner would cost to do it for me.
After reading many reviews, I was wavering between the Bissell 9400, the 9500, and the Hoover SteamVac Agility. I probably would have gone with the Agility just for the sake of price and the separate dirty/clean water tanks, but none of the local stores had it, and like I said I needed it now. Finally I wandered into a Linens `n Things and saw the Bissell 9500. It was priced higher than Amazon, but with a 20% off coupon it actually came out a little lower, even after paying sales tax. So I took it home.
I had absolutely no problems with assembly. It took all of maybe 5-10 minutes and a Philips screwdriver.
My first impression was Wow! Bissell has sure made a lot of improvements since my mom's machine rolled off the line.
The water tank is much easier to clean and use. The piece of plastic on the top where the suction takes place on the old Bissell was difficult to clean because it was attached to the main assembly, but the new one has the suction part on top of the water tank, so you can easily run water through it to get the gunk out. I'm a believer that you have to clean these things after using them if you want them to last. I also like that the water tank is made with Microban so I don't have to worry about bacteria building up in a damp machine.
I also like that this has a separate tank for the cleaning solution. I believe that with the Hoover Agility you have to mix the solution with the water, which would make it difficult to switch between cleaning and rinsing with water only. Rinsing helps get the extra soap out so you don't feel like you're walking on chemicals. I appreciated being able to choose between `heavy traffic', `normal clean', `light clean', and `water rinse' with the turn of a dial.
The `Clean Shot' feature, which I didn't think would be a big deal, actually turned out to be quite useful. Often I would go over a spot, expecting it to disappear, only to find it was still there. So, I would just hit it with a wallop of pure cleaning solution, clean another section for a few seconds, then go back over the spot. It really seemed to help get the peskier ones out.
On the old Bissell, the nozzles and hose were constantly falling out when you weren't using them because there was no way to secure them properly. I can't imagine that happening with the 9500; everything is secured with very tough plastic and nothing fell off while I was cleaning.
The attachments worked very well, by the way. One of the reasons I wanted this machine was that I wanted to be able to clean stairs myself. The TurboBrush was great. There's a switch that you can adjust between `brush'--an actual revolving brush--and `suction.' All the tools I used seemed to suction very well, another improvement over the old Bissell. The wide stair tool is nice for larger fields and the narrow tool is good for places like stair edges, where a wider tool might lose suction. There are a few tools I didn't use (crevice tool, squeegee, medium brush tool) because I didn't need them, but I might need them for instance when I clean the carpets in my truck, or when I clean my hard floors.
The only feature I am undecided on is the `Dry Aire' in which hot air blows out the bottom, supposedly to speed drying time. I didn't notice quicker drying and it makes a warm job warmer. But who knows, maybe it really does help.
My carpet looks wonderful. I'm convinced that if I spent more time on it, especially pre-treating, it would look even more wonderful, but who has unlimited time these days, especially with an 8-month-old? It definitely looks as good as when we moved in, maybe a little better. Like I said, the previous owner was very clean, so there wasn't a ton of dirt built up other than what we've brought in during these last four months. Nevertheless, there were plenty of times during my cleaning of high-traffic areas that I would see a distinct line between clean and dirty after the very first pass.
Overall the Bissell 9500 was easy to use, a pleasure really. It's not too heavy for me and I'm quite small. All the plastic on it seems very thick and durable, and it's even kind of pretty--an amazing machine.
I'll update this review if I have any problems with it in the future.

Using the power of heat, brushes, and cleaning formula, this upright home cleaning system removes deep-down dirt for a maximum clean. The unit's built-in heater heats hot tap water up to 25 degrees hotter for maximum results, plus it offers a no-heat option for cleaning delicate wool or oriental rugs. Eureka 6500A Airextreme 12-Amp Bagged Canister Vacuum Cleaner with Hepa Filtration Review

Eureka 6500A Airextreme 12-Amp Bagged Canister Vacuum Cleaner with Hepa Filtration
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Eureka because I wanted an 'upstairs' vac. You know, the machine that we just keep for the bedrooms. Well, I now use this machine all over the house. Here's what I really like about this vacuum:
fairly quiet operation
variable speed motor
excellent filtration
power nozzle seems self propelled
very large bare floor brush attachment
Now, things I don't like about it:
small bag capacity
flimsy, tiny little dusting brush - worthless (and it keeps falling off the holder)
made in China
The bags, while very small, are easy to change. And they are fairly inexpensive, so I can't kick about that too much. The power nozzle goes under very low things (like beds and coffee tables) and cleans very well. The carpet almost looks new again. The suction is very good, not outstanding, but certainly enough to clean well.
I wish the speed control for the motor was in the hose handle, and not on the cleaner, as I don't remember to bend down to turn the knob when cleaning throw rugs (which is what a speed control is made for), and wind up dragging the throw rugs across the kitchen floor.
All in all, it's a decent cleaner at a decent price, and I feel it will do the job I require of it for many years. For the average person's needs, and in a home less than 2000 square feet, with wall to wall rugs and bare floor surfaces, it's a fine vacuum. I did go to a vacuum cleaner service shop and bought a REAL dusting brush (round, with horse hair bristles) that works like a dream compared to the one included. Cost: $4.

Black and Decker PAV1200W 12-Volt Cyclonic-Action Automotive Pivoting-Nose Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

This thing is perfect! The things I looked for when shopping for my first auto vac were:
1) Length of cord - plenty of legnth. DON'T EVER GO FOR A WIRELESS AUTO VAC! The suction power dies, and eventually, you'll have 5 minutes of good suction per charge. The cord for this vac is too long - and that's a good thing. Of course you'll need a cigarette lighter input, which all cars should have. I am able to reach the back of my Scion tC with ease and extra cord available. And if you know anything about tC's, they are small cars so you big car owners should have no problem at all.
2) Suction power - Since this is a wired-type, there's no need to worry about loss of suction power. With 12V, this thing will clean up your car pretty nicely. For those stubborn pieces of dirt, hair, cloth, etc. that stick to your car fabric, the brush attachment does wonders.
3) Attachments - It comes with three attachments - a brush attachment, a rectangle-to-circle attachment to attach the brush, and a tube attachment to reach those hard-to-reach spots. This vac comes with a pivoting action end which is, in my opinion, genius. It really helps to access under the seats and under the side-ends of the back seats.
4) Convenience - It's lightweight, and comes with a bag, so you can carry it around for travel.
All in all, this is the best auto vac solution. Don't worry about the price - this thing is worth every penny.

Dirt Devil 082500 Breeze Bagless Canister Vacuum Review

Dirt Devil 082500 Breeze Bagless Canister Vacuum

(More customer reviews)
This is the best vacuum I've had yet for hard wood floors. I have 1 child, 2 cats ,a dog and a bird and it literally was a breeze on all of their mess, such as candy wrappers, hair, cat litter and seeds. We have a large townhouse and I could do the first-floor and steps without having to replug somewhere else. The dirt canister is larger than I thought it would be and the suction was great! It's also very easy to clean. It is lightweight and easy to handle and the micro-fresh filter only needs to be replaced 2 times a year ... (Now that makes me breathe easy). The only thing I can come up with that I would change on this vac is that it does not have a retractable cord.

Electrolux EL 7055A Twin Clean Bagless Canister Vacuum Review

Electrolux EL 7055A Twin Clean Bagless Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Until I purchased this! This nifty little vacuum achieves what no other vacuum can. It's powerful and robust yet light to handle. I was thinking about buying a Dyson, but they are so heavy to push around and I needed a flexible power head that can reach under furniture. The power head lays almost completely flat and slides easily under beds, sofa's and other furniture. All of the components are tough yet light. The hose is excellent and the telescopic part is made from aluminum, it's very solid.
It comes with a crevice tool and a dusting brush which are located on the hose handle and a separate well made hard floor brush that has real bristles and wheels, and an upholstery brush. The fact that I don't have to pick fluff and dust off the filter is a real plus, the bagless models are usually so annoying for that reason. This vacuum cleans its own filter with a simple maneuver.
The controls are located on the hose handle and are push buttons not switches, there are 3, the on/off, bare floor/carpet and suction control of which there are 2 levels. There are two lighted (a cool neon blue!) indicators on the canister for suction level and filter cleaning.
It is very easy to lift off the dust container and you press a lever to empty it out. I found it better to do this without shaking or tapping the dust out too much as it can cloud out all over the container if you are not careful, I then just dusted the lid and body with a swifer duster to clean up the fine dust.
I was quite shocked at what the cleaner picked up, it seemed to remove dirt that was really embedded in my medium pile carpet and I had been vacuuming regularly with my Kenmoore.
The only problem I have is that the power head is noisy, but I can forgive that because it works hard. The canister itself is not noisy when you switch to bare floor it is quieter than average. Also, I am not sure that the power head picks up that well on the bare floor option, I got a better result using the bare floor brush.
All round a super stylish high tech piece of Swedish engineering. It is expensive, but you are buying the Rolls Royce of vacuum cleaners.

Equipped with a 12 amp motor, this bagless, multi-cyclonic, upright vacuum cleaner provides powerful suction for thoroughly cleaning the home from top to bottom. The unit effectively removes dust, dirt, dry spills, and more, while its automatic height adjustment makes it possible to transition effortlessly from bare-floor surfaces to low- or high-pile carpeting (no need for manual adjusting). For added convenience, its 8-1/2-foot wire-reinforced stretch hose and various attachments make above-floor cleaning a snap. Use the TurboBrush for small areas such as stairs and upholstery; the crevice tool to access tight, narrow spaces; the extension wand for longer reach; and the dusting brush to dust furniture, blinds, books, lamps, shelves, and other delicate surfaces. It also comes with a bendable wand attachment for cleaning under couches, beds, dressers, and other hard-to-reach areas, as well as a deluxe floor tool that works with the bendable wand attachment--the tool's pivoting, lint brush bar collects hair, dust, and other debris with each pull-back motion and releases debris into the suction path of the tool with each push-forward motion. When collected dirt reaches the "full" line, it's time to empty to dirt container--a simple push button makes it easy to empty without getting hands dirty. In addition, the vacuum cleaner provides a washable pre-motor filter that protects the motor from dirt particles and a HEPA media post-motor filter that captures over 99.9-percent of dust mites, pollens, and ragweeds to ensure clean air gets released back out into the room. Other highlights include fingertip on/off controls, a 13-1/4-inch cleaning path, dual-edge cleaning, a soft bumper to protect furniture and baseboards from marking, a carrying handle, a 25-foot power cord, cord storage, and a tool bag to keep all the attachments neatly stored. The upright vacuum cleaner measures 13 by 14-1/2 by 45 inches and carries a five-year limited warranty.

Hoover U831900 Windtunnel 2 Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Hoover U831900 Windtunnel 2 Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
SPRING 2011 UPDATE (3.5 years later)
It's hard to believe that I've had this vaccum for almost 4 years already and it's still going strong. I'll report back when the thing konks out (unless I konk out first). I'm hoping for an 8 year lifespan (on the vac, not me) - we'll see.
I've started using the allergen bags vs the hepa bags to save a few bucks but I still have hepa bags for when I really want to do a great job (still get the bags from amazon). Vaccuming after a christmas tree still yields that smell of pine needles from the vac regardless of whether it's hepa or just allergen (until I change the bag). Emptying the bag is easier with the self closing feature. String does get caught in the roller and you do have to clean that out from time to time with a knife to cut the strings and pull them out but that's with all vacs.
Much happier still with this upright bagged vac than with the canister vacs or a bagless ones I've had before. I'm sticking to bagged uprights and it's lasting quite well.
Overall, still hate vaccuming but I'm much happier vaccuming with a sensibly priced vaccum than with some $800 Miele or Dyson....this is a sound investment and at least mine has held up very well, no broken parts. Besides, no matter what vac you get, you're going to hate it right ;-) ;-) so why buy a $1,000 vac made by Swiss artisans.
Happy vaccuming.ORIGINAL REVIEWFirst of all thank you to all the reviewers of not just Hoover but Eureka, Electrolux, Dyson, Hoover, Orek, and all the other brands out there --- especially the critical reviews, they're the most helpful in my mind although - I'm writing a positive review. Its a tall order to the people who build vacuums though to build a perfect vac: a tool to help us do something that we inherently hate to do.
I guess you're getting old in life when you can say you've owned 6 vacuum cleaners in your life and having owned 6, I've been through it all: bagged, bagless, canister, upright etc....and I've used every single one of them until they dropped (I never buy to replace a working vac - run it into the ground). This is what my school of hard knocks has taught me and why I bought this one and what I like dislike about this vacuum.
Canister vs Upright
My last vacuum was a Hoover canister and I bought it because I erroneously thought it had more suction than an upright -- actually most uprights are more powerful and better for carpets where canister vacs are more maneuverable and better for hardwood floors. I have about 50% hardwood and 50% carpet but I mostly use the vac on the carpet and use a broom, mop as needed on hardwood so for me carpet cleaning power was the requirement.
Bagged vs Bagless
Bagged vacuums tend to lose suction as the bag fills up -- so your first vacuuming on a clean bag is great and then things go downhill as the bag fills the dirt and mess gets compressed in the bag and you lose suction. Bagless vacuums retain suction throughout the filling of the container but and here's a very important but, you have to empty the container very very regularly, almost a container per room sometimes and emptying the container is always always a dirty affair --- not as bad as empting a shopvac but definitely not what the commercials/informercials show or fail to show and you cannot cheat on NOT emptying the container regularly as the penalty is a time consuming and messy affair to clean gobs of gunk out of your new and sometimes $700 expensive vac that looked so pretty on that commercial --- so if you go bagless empty the container regularly or spend most of your time unclogging your vacuum vs vacuuming your house. Sealing and seating the container is also very important or you can wind up with lost suction or a mess. Also, if you don't empty your container after you finish with a bagless, you create an environment from which dustmites etc can escape etc....and lookes very ugly. Other than that, bagless vacs tend to look prettier (is that possible) no, it must be the marketing talking there but in my experience they're as reliable as bag vacs but no more. All that said, bagged vacs don't need changing as regularly -- you vacuum multiple times (sometimes I change a bag every several months when I notice I'm not cleaning as good as before) so at least to me, bagged works best. I'm not messy and my place stays fairly clean but enough that I'd change a container a couple of times during an average housecleaning.
Cheap vs Expensive
Price seems to be somewhat overrated with vacuums (although $200 is pretty steep in my mind)...Consumer Reports had some great ratings and rated this vacuum 2nd place just under a Kenmore on a variety of tests and much more expensive vacuums were rated less favorably. That said, different people have different tastes and if getting a premium brand vacuum makes you happy - by all means. But in my experience (crosscorrelated with Consumer Reports) price does not correlate well with quality, dependability, or cleaning ability in the vacuum industry. Salesmanship, Marketing, Advertising and cost dictate price in my experience. If you just got an $11million condo, you probably have help and probably aren't shopping for a vac so that particular issue is moot - the rich don't buy vacuums (really) and vacuums are not a class statement in my mind -- so to me, buy something that works, is reliable, and is easy to clean empty.
What was I looking for:
-I've come to realize in life that the honeymoon period for a vacuum is extremely short, much shorter than the 6mos with me and a new car or the 2years with my average house....its more like 5 minutes so knowing that my love affair would be limited to reading the reviews on Amazon after my old vac broke and a brief consumation of the first vacuuming, I settled on looking for these qualities:
1) Something that worked well
2) Reliability & Dependability (works well for years)
3) Clean (not have to empty the bucket every 3 minutes)
4) HEPA
5) Carpet cleaning Power
6) Low Hassle
What made me buy this:
1) Bag (in my experience, they're less hassle overall and neater for me)
2) Carpet cleaning power
3) Autorewind of power cord (I know I'm lazy)
4) Dependability and Reliability
5) Consumer Reports
6) The 10 gazillion reviews on all vacuums here on Amazon (yes I read them and some of them are amazingly insightful and there are some people here who must be paid to write reviews and thankfully they are easy to spot. I found some of the more critical honest reviews useful and sometimes comical....especially the electric shock defect on one major and highly advertised brands...I was laughing at your pain fellow reviewer but seriously thank you for bringing it to light and steering me from some a $600 mistake...as a disclaimer, I'm not paid and I am an owner of the U8311-900....btw, one easy way to tell most fake reviewers is to look at a reviewer's other reviews and if they only have one or review 6 vacuums ask yourself the question....the real reviewer will have a healthy body of reviews on different products they buy for our homes and personal use after all, we're just living our lives out here)
How I've fared with the Wind Tunnel 2 Bag vacuum;
1) Setup was very easy - two screws to attach the handle
2) Came with 3 HEPA bags (1 installed, 2 new)
3) Was vacuuming in 5 minutes
4) Has a clean dirty indicator (its more of a gadget...small optical eye...in reality, you can hear if you're picking up dirt or not usually but it looks neat)
5) The wand and accessories are right there (it makes it easier for me since with the canister vac, changing from floor to accessories was a chore)....granted, the only real accessory I use is the edge cleaning wand so I can get my edges clean....overall very happy to be able to use it readily
6) Not too loud -- quieter than manhy of my other vacuums
7) Wide -- its not a small beast, you can tell this is a vacuum for a 2+ bedroom abode with carpet but not too heavy - average for a large upright.
8) HEPA bag - I am not a clean freak but knowing I'm not putting dust back into my air is good to know
9) Self Sealing Bags -- again not a total clean freak but good to know I don't have to stick my fingers into the mess or breath the dust when I change the bag.
10) Easier to store over a canister vac -- put in upright position and roll into closet vs bending over to pick up canister dragging huge hose and then pushing the whole thing into laundry room and 5 minutes later hear the clack as the vacuum falls over if I don't secure it right.
11) Manual heigh adjustment for my type of carpet
Pet Peaves:
1) The cord's position makes it so that you run over it with the left back wheel if you don't clip it to a provided clip (very minor and the engineers thought enough to put the clip) but if it breaks, I can see myself vacuuming with one hand and holding the cord with my left.
2) The cleaning wand is the handle and it telescopes with a little pin (kindof like the type that modern aluminum crutches have) you push the little pin and it telescopes out but the result is that there's just a little bit of play as you push and pull the vacuum (almost unnoticable) but its there, I noticed it when I first assembled the vac and then forgot about it once I started vacuuming but if you're overly obsessive compulsive, I can see how if you fixate on that, it could drive you nuts
3) Its not self propelled but then again, that's a whole other mess of things to break that sometimes works and sometimes don't work.
4) Its no where near as maneuverable as a canister vac but I knew this going...Read more›

Equipped with a powerful yet quiet 12-amp motor, this upright vacuum cleaner features patented WindTunnel 2 technology located in the floor nozzle, which forces the rotating brushes and airflow to work in harmony. It lifts and traps the dirt, keeping it from scattering back into the carpet, so dirt ends up in the cleaner not on the floor. With red and green lights, its embedded DirtFinder system indicates areas that may need more cleaning attention. The green "clean" light remains on while vacuuming except when the detector senses a larger amount of dirt; then the red "dirty" light will come on to suggest additional vacuuming in the area until the light changes back to green.
When in the upright position, the vacuum cleaner's agitator brush roll automatically shuts off, which allows all the suction power to be focused in the hose for effective above-floor cleaning. Attachments include a dusting brush, furniture nozzle, crevice tool, and a powered pet-hair cleaning tool. The unit's handle instantly converts into a telescopic wand, while its Tag Along grip helps guide the cleaner. Combined with the super stretch hose, it offers 12-feet of cleaning reach, eliminating the need to bend or stretch while cleaning.
The vacuum also provides a Breathe-Easy hygienic filter bag system, which makes changing the bag clean and simple. When removed, the bag automatically seals itself closed to keep dirt inside. It also traps 100-percent of dust mites, ragweed, and common grass pollens. The bag effortlessly slides back in from the front when replaced. Other highlights include a handle that adjusts for people of all heights, a headlight to illuminate the cleaning path, soft wheels, a carry handle, and a cord-rewind system that retracts 28 feet of cord quickly and easily at the push of a button. The vacuum cleaner measures approximately 14 by 15 by 43 inches and carries a one-year warranty that covers the entire vacuum, plus a lifetime warranty on the belt.

I was quite confused when I first started doing research on electorlux. My mother, and her mother, have always owned electrolux vacuums. This electrolux is not the same company that has been doing business in the U.S. under the electrolux name in the past. The old electrolux has changed their name to Aerus Electrolux.
Electrolux is an international company that states on their website "Electrolux is the world's largest producer of appliances and equipment for kitchen, cleaning and outdoor use." In the United States they do business under the familiar names: Eureka, Frigidaire, Poulan, Weed Eater, and now thier upscale brand Electrolux.
OK, on to the vacuum. I bought mine after much research at Lowe's. While opening and putting the thing together, a small clip that holds the power head on the shaft broke off. I called the company and they said they would send me a new piece with out much hassle, but then got a call back 15 minutes later saying that since the product was so new, it might take 2 months to send me a replacement part and suggested I just return it for a new one to Lowe's. My over all experience with thier customer support leads me to beleive that I won't have too many problems dealing with them in the future.
My second vacuum unpacked fine and after a couple uses I'm quite satisfied with it's performance. The carpet powerhead does very well on my rugs, and even does ok on hard floors. The hard floor attachment is more than a foot wide and makes quick work of the hard wood in my house but is so wide you have to switch it for the corner tool to get around most furnature. I was impressed with the suction from the vacuum, even before I noticed that I only had it turned up half way :) So I'll try to sum up the pros and cons.
Pro:
Cool looking
Nice cord length and roll up storage
Wide reach on the attachments
Small size of the canister
Does a good job of sucking up small stuff
Bags are just more than $1 each (for the standard bags)
Easily turn on and off the roller on the power head
Both the hard floor attachment, and the power head easily go under beds and couches
Con:
Hard to deteach the hose from the canister for storage
Power head won't work on bath mats
I'll post again in a few months when I see how it's holding up.

Exceptional performance, modern design, and brilliant color combine in this simple-to-use canister vacuum cleaner. The unit's power head offers a separate motor to drive thorough carpet cleaning, which can be witnessed through the clear window, and a low profile for easy access under nearly any kind of furniture. Quickly switch between carpets and hard floors by controlling the brush roll using fingertip controls--no need to bend and stoop to get the perfect kind of clean. Also, suction power control on the handle helps with specialty above-the-floor cleaning such as drapery and furniture. On-board tools for above-the-floor cleaning consist of an upholstery brush, a dusting brush, a crevice tool, and a caddy.
In addition, the vacuum provides the freshest, cleanest house possible with its long-life HEPA H12 filtration system, which makes the air coming out even cleaner than the air going in. Its superior filtration system captures 99.97-percent of dust and allergens as small as 0.3 microns. Plus, it uses the new auto-close system of the Electrolux s-bag, which prevents dust from escaping when changing the 2-quart-capacity bag. Every part of the vacuum, in fact, comes tightly sealed so no dirty air can escape. Other highlights include electronic speed control, a super silent motor, an electronic "full" dust-bag indicator, and an ergonomic design. Even more, with a durable brush roll and long-life belt, there's minimal maintenance over the life of the cleaner. The 1400-watt canister vacuum cleaner measures 9-1/2 by 12 by 18 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

Eureka 169B Quick Up Vacuum Review

Eureka 169B Quick Up Vacuum
Average Reviews:

I was pleasantly surprised at the ability of this little vac to pick up pet hair. Removing the handle is accomplished easily to facilitate cleaning pet hair from furniture. The vac can be operated with the revolving brush on or off by selecting the appropriate setting at the switch.
It's great for small quick cleanups on carpet or cleaning bare floors. Make no mistake, this is not a replacement for a full-size, full-power vac. As a test I used this product on a section of heavy-traffic carpet that went two weeks without cleaning. It picked up the pet hair fairly well and filled it's dust cup. I then cleaned the same section with a new Bissel Cleanview Bagless upright (I've also written a review for the Bissel). The Bissel picked up enough pet hair, dust and dirt to fill the Eureka's dust cup several times. The dust cup on the Eureka is easy to remove but messy to empty and tapping it to remove the dust results in dust flying everywhere.
Keeping in mind what it's designed for, I give the Eureka Boss Superbroom 4 stars. If you have lots of carpeting in your home, don't even consider this to be your primary vac. As a primary vac I would give it only one star.

Bissell PowerSteamer PowerBrush Select Upright Deep Cleaner, 1623 Review

Bissell PowerSteamer PowerBrush Select Upright Deep Cleaner, 1623

I had bought this for my wife after a lengthy search on the internet and we've not been disappointed. The first occasion to use it came after one of our four legged pets had an accident on our beige rug. It loads easily and it's handy how the clean water and the waste water share space on the small, cartridge. It's surprisingly light weight too. We'd had a Bissell previously from about 10 years ago and that was a large, 4 wheeled item that you pulled behind you. As I recall that cleaned pretty well but all the water fittings leaked no matter how hard you tightened them. I'm glad to say that this Bissell cleans even better and there are no leaks to be seen.
This has been a good purchase for us!

Dirt is a normal part of a carpet's everyday wear and tear--but that dirt can get ground deep into a rug's fibers every time it's walked on, damaging them permanently. Portable, lightweight, and easy to use, the Bissell PowerSteamer PowerBrush Upright Deep Cleaner protects and extends carpet life by removing deep-down grit and stains, using just hot tap water, deep-cleaning detergent, and its five-row rotating DirtLifter PowerBrush. In addition to leaving carpets clean, odor-free, and gently groomed for a polished look, the unit can also be used to clean bare floors, stairs, and upholstery. Useful tools include a 3-inch tough-stain tool, a two-in-one spraying crevice tool, and a bare-floor tool.
The unit's 3/4-gallon two-in-one water-tank system features a heavy-duty bladder inside for clean water, which empties and mixes with the cleaning formula during operation. The dirty water that gets pulled out of the carpets collects around the outside of the bladder, which means the clean and dirty water never mix. Other thoughtful details include a comfortable handle, quick-release cord hooks, a lint screen, and easy-to-maneuver wheels, as well as a built-in measuring cup and a removable nozzle for quick cleanup. The unit's wide cleaning path covers more ground in less time, while the 25-foot power cord means less unplugging and re-plugging when cleaning larger rooms. The unit comes with an 8-ounce bottle of Hard Floor Solutions, a 16-ounce bottle of Fiber Cleansing Formula, and a dual-purpose Scotchgard-enhanced detergent that both deep-cleans carpet and protects it from future dirt and stains. The 12 amp upright deep cleaner measures 19 by 11 by 44 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Hoover U5468-900 WindTunnel Supreme Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Hoover U5468-900 WindTunnel Supreme Bagged Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When my husband and I decided to replace our 12-year old Hoover, we did hours of internet research on vacuums. Eventually, we decided to stick with a bag model, as dealing with canisters and filters sounded like too much trouble (plus, we don't have pets, so we didn't really see the need). After weighing various factors, from special features to ease of use to price, we decided to go with this Hoover Windtunnel model.
We got a great price using Amazon's discount offer, and the vacuum shipped very quickly despite our choice of Super Saver shipping. The unit required only simple assembly, although I should note that our package was missing a required bolt, so we had to contact Hoover for a replacement and wait another week or so before we were able to complete assembly and use the vacuum. Finally, we had the opportunity to try our new product. The first thing we noticed was the sound, as this vacuum, while still loud, is noticeably quieter than our old Hoover. Second, the cord is significantly longer (about 30 feet), which is very convenient for maneuvering around our home. My husband also appreciated the convenience of the headlight, although to be fair, most newer models include this feature.
As far as cleaning ability goes, this vacuum does a good job. It doesn't necessarily out-perform our old vacuum, but it does seem to stir up less dust. Also, the larger vacuum head speeds up the chore time a bit (although it also makes it harder to fit in tight places). The dirt indicator light did seem to be consistent with areas that required a bit more attention, which was nice. Another feature of this vacuum is the build-in handle at the unit's base for cleaning stairs; this was a nice idea, but my husband (who does the majority of the vacuuming in our house--lucky me!) found it to be a bit cumbersome and uncomfortable to use.
Overall, we are happy with our choice of this vacuum, a solid performer that can be purchased via Amazon at a very reasonable price. If you are living in a home with no pets and looking for a good basic vacuum, this would be an excellent choice.
UPDATE JULY 2008: Unfortunately, I need to downgrade my review of this vacuum, as its performance has deteriorated over time, and we are currently in the market to purchase a new one. My husband, who is the main user of the vacuum, compiled the following list of complaints:
1. The on/off switch ceased working shortly after the one-year warranty period expired. Currently, the vacuum can only be turned on or off by plugging and unplugging the unit from an electrical outlet.
2. The height adjuster failed, also shortly after the one-year warranty period expired; the vacuum now leaves an odd-looking wave pattern on the carpet unless it is used at the highest setting (which is the least effective).
3. The natural forward momentum of the vacuum stopped after only a few months of use, making the unit more difficult to push.
4. The dirt indicator light seems arbitrary and thus virtually useless.
5. The vacuum is awkward to use on stairs: the place to grab is not a handle--rather, it is just an indentation in the plastic, which becomes painful to hold after only a few seconds.
6. The cord does not remain attached to the clamps on vacuum during use: when the cord is fully extended, it pulls loose of the clamps, causing it to constantly get underfoot.
7. The vacuum's motor "revs" loudly at random times and for no apparent reason.
8. The dirt bags are difficult both to attach and to remove.
9. The vacuum does not perform well on hard floors: it blows dirt around, necessitating several passes.
10. The vacuum feels heavy and has a wide head, making cleaning in tight spaces difficult.

Equipped with a 12 amp motor and patented WindTunnel technology, this bagged upright vacuum cleaner delivers powerful cleaning performance. The unit's 15-inch-wide cleaning path with a dual brush agitator gets the job done quickly, while edge groomers effectively clean near baseboards and furniture. In addition, its five height settings allow for switching from bare floors to carpets with ease, and the cleaner's Embedded DirtFinder system provides red and green indicator lights to alert users to areas that may need more cleaning attention. The unit also comes with a HEPA allergen filtration bag that traps 99.98-percent of all particles down to 0.3 microns, plus a washable secondary filter, located in the bag compartment, which protects the motor from dirt particles. For thorough cleaning, on-board tools include a deluxe stretch hose, two extension wands, a dusting brush, an upholstery nozzle, and a crevice tool for hard-to-reach areas. Exclusive upfront tool storage keeps all the tools within easy reach. Other highlights include fingertip on/off power control, a headlight, a 31-foot power cord, a full-bag indicator, and a carrying handle for easy transport. The vacuum cleaner measures 13 by 15 by 43 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

This has got to be the worst vacuum I have ever owned. It started out nice but within a month, half of the passages were clogged with lint, this vacuum does not have the strength to pick up dirt, it just fills the inner working of the thing until it doesn't work. I have had to pull the thing apart every two months to clean it out. This is the only way to keep it working properly; I would not recommend any hover vacuum. This is a complete waste of your money

I bought a Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel Bagless with Powered Hand Tool (Model U6637-960) in July 2007. I was reasonably happy with it until the motor burned out last week - just 4 months past the warranty date. I have a two-bedroom apartment; this Hoover received very moderate use. Of course I checked for problems with the roller, belts, and visible clogs. The dirt cup had been recently emptied. The next step would have been to take it to a dealer for repair.
I'm finished with Hoovers. I now have a Bissell Momentum Bagless (Model 82G7-1) that I quite like, so far. It is much lighter weight than the Hoover, and easier to maneuver. One of the features I liked about the Hoover was the powered hand tool attachment. The Bissell has the same type of attachment (TurboBrush). Suction through both the base the attachment hose is very good - better than the Hoover. The dirt cup is separate from the filter (unlike the Hoover) and easier to remove and empty. On the down side, the Bissell's dirt cup is smaller and has to be emptied frequently. I paid [...] for the Hoover (Costco, with coupon). I paid [...] for the Bissell (Kohl's, on sale with coupon).
Where to dispose of my disabled Hoover? For people in the Chicago area, this information might be of interest:
Abt Electronics & Appliances (Glenview, IL) has an appliance recycling facility. Another company picks up the appliances from Abt, and either fixes the used appliances for resale or recycles them. For more information, go to the [...] website and search on "Recycling".

Hoover F6215-900 SteamVac Agility Carpet Cleaner Review

Hoover F6215-900 SteamVac Agility Carpet Cleaner

(More customer reviews)
With a husband, a 2 year old boy, 3 cats and after dropping my quarterly carpet cleaning contract with a local company, it was time to buy a carpet cleaning machine. After doing several days of researching and shopping, I decided to buy the Hoover Agility from Wal*Mart for about $185. My husband told me that I wasted our money, well....he was wrong!!!! After thoroughly vacuuming my carpets, I cleaned out my bagless Hoover Wind Tunnel, and as usual, the bagless cannister was full of cat hair, dust, and dirt. I then proceeded to clean the carpets in my house. The water was disgustingly dirty, almost black!!! After allowing the carpets to dry, I vacuumed my carpets to remove any 'shading'. I was completely amazed!!! The only thing that my vacuum cleaner picked up was a small amount of loose carpet fibers!!! Yes, just carpet fibers!!!
Pros: Comes pre-assembled, extremely easy to operate and I did this without ready the manual, the water tanks are easy to remove, fills, and they snap very back into place with little effort.
Cons: The electrical cord in my opinion is not long enough.

2 kids a dog and "oatmeal" carpet, this purchase was long overdue. Not only does it get out everyday dust and dirt, it works on juice spills, dog tracks, and red GA clay. The upholstery/stair attachment works great on the upholstery, stairs. I have used this on the car interior and it works perfectly! I highly recommend this model: it is affordable and will pay for itself the second time you use it. The only draw back is that the cord is a bit short, and the hose attachment is too short to reach my stairs: probably a sacrifice to the amount of suction the attachment provides.
